The DH.100 Vampire was the second jet aircraft to enter service with the Royal Air Force (RAF), following the Gloster Meteor.

Developed during World War II, the Vampire was powered by the de Havilland Goblin engine and featured a distinctive twin-boom tail design. The Mk.I variant was primarily used as a fighter and trainer aircraft.

This 1/72 scale model kit from Special Hobby allows modelers to construct a detailed replica of the Vampire Mk.I, featuring:

  • High-Quality Plastic Parts: Molded in grey styrene with clear parts for the canopy.

  • Photo-Etched Details: Includes a fret of photo-etched parts to enhance detail.

  • Decal Options: Markings for the RAF, RAAF, and Armée de l'Air, with Australian decals included.

  • Detailed Cockpit and Landing Gear: Accurate representation of the aircraft's interior and undercarriage.

The kit's plastic parts come on three grey styrene sprues and two clear sprues, accompanied by a fret of photo-etched parts. The development of the jet fighter, later named Vampire, began in 1941 and was closely related to the development of the H-1 jet engine, for which the engine section of de Havilland company was responsible. The engine was later known under its new name, Goblin, and its development was very successful. The Vampire was therefore ordered under Air Ministry specification E6/41 for an experimental machine that could be converted into a fighter plane. The Mk.I version was also the very first jet fighter aircraft to be used by the military of neutral countries, Switzerland and Sweden.
