About the Dornier Do 217 and Fritz X

The Dornier Do 217 was a versatile German bomber used during World War II for conventional bombing, maritime strike and specialised anti-shipping operations.

The K-series introduced a redesigned forward fuselage with a distinctive glazed nose. The Do 217 K-2 was adapted to carry the Fritz X, a radio-guided armour-piercing bomb developed to attack heavily protected warships.

Fritz X became historically significant in September 1943 when German aircraft used the weapon to sink the Italian battleship Roma.

This Italeri kit captures an important chapter in the development of precision-guided aerial weapons.
