Tamiya 1/700 Scale Japanese Aircraft Carrier Shinano (Item No. 31215)

The Tamiya 1/700 Scale Japanese Aircraft Carrier Shinano (Item No. 31215) is a highly detailed model kit that allows builders to recreate the Shinano, one of the largest aircraft carriers ever built by Japan during World War II. This model is part of Tamiya's Water Line Series, representing ships at the waterline for a compact and realistic display.

  • Scale: 1/700

  • Length: Approx. 390 mm

  • Width: Approx. 145 mm

  • Height: Approx. 60 mm

  • Skill Level: Intermediate

  • Type: Full kit

Kit Contents:

  • Detailed Components: Includes precisely molded parts that faithfully represent the Shinano’s large hull, flight deck, island superstructure, and aircraft.

  • Decals: Provides decals for the flight deck and aircraft, adding further authenticity to the build.

  • Assembly Instructions: Comes with clear, illustrated instructions to guide you through the assembly process.

Historical Context:

The Shinano was initially designed as a battleship but was converted into an aircraft carrier during construction after Japan’s losses at Midway. At the time of its completion in 1944, it was the largest aircraft carrier in the world. Unfortunately, shortly after its commissioning, the Shinano was torpedoed and sunk by the American submarine USS Archerfish on November 29, 1944. Despite its short operational history, the Shinano remains an iconic part of WWII naval history.

Assembly Requirements:

  • Assembly: Requires glue and assembly.

  • Painting: Recommended for use with Tamiya’s acrylic or enamel paints suitable for naval models.
